Summer is slowly coming to a close and quite frankly, I couldn’t be happier.
In years past the summer has been exciting- a time to travel, experience new places, meet new people, spend a ton of money, soak up the sun, and enjoy the 3 months of warmth before the brutal winter frost comes and forces me to hibernate until the following spring.
This year has been jam-packed with growth, an unexpected move, lots of new mental, familial, and relational experiences. I’ve felt the sun beam on my back while I moved couches from one house to the next. The heat of the day shining on my skin as I replanted my hostas at the new house, just to watch the sun rays scorch their delicate leaves.
You may hear that I’m complaining and while that is woven into the tone and the words I am more relishing the fact that after the summer, autumn is sure to follow.
I am finding a new enjoyment in my space- one that I’ve never seemed to know before. I have been on the run from home, from life, from myself for as long as I’ve lived life.
With autumn approaching I am finding peace in grounding myself and growing roots in this place I’m in. Not taking for granted the life I have and the vessels both physically and structurally I get to dwell in.
As I sat at the beach tonight for a spontaneous evening dip with my precious boy I smiled ear to ear in pure pleasure that this is the life I get to spend with him.. growing, learning, and embracing each new season as it comes.
This is the life.
